Modern society with its pressures, overcrowding,
traffic, pollution, noise, fears, uncertainties regarding work and
family, presents the situation in which the possibility of becoming
stressed is ever increasing. There is a link between stress and
every major disease. 85% of all illness is connected to stress.
Only remaining 15% are due to enviromental factors. That means only
15% can we blame others for our trouble, and 85% is our own
responsibility to resolve.
It is not the situation but our reaction to it that
creates stress, fears and anxieties about the past events and
uncertainties of life fill our mind with frightening fears.
Bereavement
Moving house
Debt
Ill health
Difficult relationships
Stressful work
Family problems
Body in a state of stress needs to conserve its energy to propel muscles. The adrenaline coursing through the bloodstream causes blood pressure to rise and muscles to tense. With a prolonged stressful situation with no release of tension, the result can be disastrous:
Under a lot of stress one can feel uneasy and vulnerable and may:
Feel like crying continually overwhelmed by negative emotions
Lead to violent behavior
Reliance on alcohol and drugs
When the physical, mental and emotional bodies are
out of balance we need assistance to restore comfort and harmony. A
sense of peace, tranquility and wholeness can ensue.
If you are distressed by anything external, the
pain is not due to the thing itself but to your estimate of it.
Stress can occur if a job is not really right for you or if you
feel your abilities are being underestimated.
Noisy office
Working in factory all day
Sitting in front of screen
Bad lighting
Insufficient working space
Illness caused by stress in workplace has increased 500% since 1950’s.
Watching negative TV news, violent programs or films
Reading newspapers or books with violence and horror
Activities and situations that carry negative energy
Listening to loud music
Associating with people with negative views
Being in places that make you feel uncomfortable
Too much salt, meat, fish, fatty foods, chocolate
Alcohol, coffee, sugar, fizzy drinks
All these will lower your energy body's vibrations,
or life-force, Ki.
As body is capable of damaging itself, so is capable of bringing
cure to it as well.

These will contribute to raising our energy, or Ki, subtle vibration and source of life force, and will improve your health. They will also help you have a more meaningful experience during the class by helping you open to the most subtle and refined levels of Reiki energy. Happy mind is medicine.
Ki helps to nourish the structure, organs and
systems of body, supporting them in their vital functions and
contributing to healthy growth and renewal of cells.
As the amount of Ki we absorb is not constant,
we do not always sufficiently replenish our supply of Ki. After
some time, our energy body becomes weaker and susceptible to
illness, accelerating ageing process, even death. When our Ki is
high and flowing freely around our whole energy body, we feel
healthy,
strong, fit and full of energy, confident and less likely to become
ill.
On contrary, if the Ki is low, or restriction or
blockage in its flow, we feel week, tired and lethargic and become
much more vulnerable to illness and disease.
Healing does not always occur on the physical level first, but
start at the:
1. emotional level, with the releasing of anger, guilt or
hatred
2. Mental level, releasing negative thoughts, concepts or
attitudes
Thoughts, speech and actions are very important, because negative
conscious energy attracts and manifests negative things, while
positive conscious energy attracts and manifests positive
things.
Spend a few minutes every day focusing on things
that make you feel loving or compassionate and increase an aspect
of the immune system.
Even 5 minutes a day of choosing to think positively or negatively
can have an impact on our capacity to maintain a healthy body.
Touch can be energizing and relaxing, leaving us
feeling refreshed and uplifted.
It can calm tense or troubled emotions, making us feel nurtured and
cared for.
Some people are traditionally very
reserved when it comes to being touched.
Professional massage is a formalized touch; it gives a licence to
touch someone who needs it within established and defined
boundaries. Touch connects us to the outside world. Most people are
starved of physical touch and may simply find human contact
therapeutic. Contact can be very valuable for anyone who is
experiencing isolation and loneliness. Touch brings the feeling of
inner peace.
Massage works on both physical, mental and
spiritual level. By concentrating on the areas most vulnerable to
stress and tension, it provides de-stressing program for the whole
body. Relieving tension in these key areas unlocks the energy
trapped in the muscles, encouraging the flow of blood and
energizing all body.
Head, neck and shoulders are important energy
centers within the body. If feeling stressed or angry, tension
tends to accumulate, and develop into stiff neck and shoulders.
The shoulders are designed for total flexibility
and possess a wider range of movements than any other joint
in body. However, by many hours sitting in front of computer or
carrying a heavy bag, shoulders slowly stiffen up and loose
mobility. This has effect on the rest of the body, restricting the
breathing and slowing the circulation, creating headaches and
impeding digestion, affecting the posture and throwing the whole
body out of balance.
Releasing the tension in the shoulders can also
release an ability to express ambitions and feelings freely. By
applying pressure on shoulders muscles we help to down knots and
nodules. We squeeze out toxins and soften up the muscles. The
shoulder area connects the mind and body and attitudes to
responsibilities, fear and suppressed feelings can all be reflected
in the area.
The head is designed to balance perfectly upon the
neck vertebrae without imposing any strain.
Because we stick our chins forward when talking or on computer, our
heads are thrown out of alignement, causing neck muscles to
tense up, becoming tight and stiff. This causes congestion and
tightness, reduces neck mobility and results in tension headaches,
migraines and eyestrain.
Attachments of many muscles are located here.
These get congested and as we get older it becomes more difficult
to move our head freely. After 50 years of age, neck movements
become increasingly restricted and muscular pain arising from the
neck is more frequent. Stiffness and restriction here can affect
our ability to express ourselves freely and spontaneously.
Tension headaches are believed to be due mainly to
emotional stress. It can make a person extremely tired yet unable
to sleep or relax sufficiently to cope with the stress. Muscles
knot in the shoulders and neck, and begin to ache and cause pain
around and inside the head.
Bad lighting conditions: too bright, too dark, and flickering
lights can induce head pain.
Frowning causes our forehead and temples to
become tense and congested, also causing permanent lines and
wrinkles. As the muscles around the temples become tight, they
constrict the flow of blood around the head, leading to headaches
and eyestrain. Tenser the muscles, the tighter the skin will feel
and move less. Loosening of tense muscles restores the flow of
blood, improving concentration and boosting the hair health.
Regular massage keeps the head in good condition and help your skin
and hair feel thicker and shinier.
